Puppy Program:

For puppies from 10 weeks to 5 months

Dr. Ian Dunbar, veterinarian, Ph.D. behaviorist, author and pioneer of reward-based training, stresses the most critical time in your dog’s life is puppyhood. In After You Get Your Puppy ...the clock is ticking!, he discusses the three developmental deadlines owners must meet before the puppy is five months old.

Socialization - The Most Urgent Priority
Dunbar suggests your puppy should have met 100 strangers, mostly men and children, before twelve weeks of age.

  Soft Mouth and Bite Inhibition
This must be accomplished before your puppy is 18 weeks of age. Learning bite inhibition is the end result of providing opportunities for your puppy to play with other, similar-age puppies.

  Introduction to Its World
If your dog is to remain sociable and confident, it must continue to meet new people and new dogs and experience a variety of settings and situations. This is an ongoing priority for the rest of your dog’s life.

Our puppy program has three components: Socialization , Relationship Building, and Training. The goal of our program is to ensure that by the age of five months your puppy has learned appropriate social skills to meet and greet other dogs and people, has dependable bite inhibition, and is well behaved. We accomplish this through a day care program that provides socialization opportunities through supervised play in large, grassy fields.

Our training program teaches owners relationship building skills and working effectively with their puppies at an early age. Emphasis is on teaching puppy owners how to communicate with their puppies using reward-based training methods (positive reinforcement). Puppies will learn to walk quietly on a leash, sit, lie down, stay, and come when called.
