Frequently Asked Quesions:

  Dog Boarding

Do you allow people to visit the kennels before boarding?
We encourage owners to bring their dogs and inspect our facilities before booking boarding dates. We like to meet the dogs to ensure they will fit into our boarding system.

Do you board intact males or unspayed females?
We will board unaltered males or unspayed females (we do not board females in heat). However, intact male dogs over the age of six months cannot be turned out with other dogs.

Is my dog going to get to play with other dogs?
Dogs are evaluated for suitability before being allowed to participate in play groups. Dogs that are friendly, social, outgoing at the sole discretion of GTC may be turned out into large fields for group play with the owner’s permission. Intact male dogs over the age of six months cannot be turned out with other dogs.

My dog is aggressive; can I bring him/her?
GTC does NOT accept dogs which are aggressive towards people. Dogs must be evaluated for temperament before being accepted for boarding. A dog that is dog aggressive will be evaluated for suitability. GTC offers many configurations of kennels and runs. Dogs that tend to be fence aggressive will be placed in a unit away from other dogs.

I have more than one dog? Will they be boarded together?
Our individual dog runs are large enough to accommodate up to four large dogs. All dogs in the same family are kept together.

Are the kennels indoors or outdoors?
All of our units consist of a building which the dog has access to at all times. Each unit has an attached run for the dog to go outside into the fresh air. At dark, dogs are shut into the housing unit; they are let out at 7:00 a.m.

Are the kennels heated and air-conditioned?
Our kennels are not heated or air conditioned. Each run has a wading pool for dogs to cool off in the summer. Each housing unit has either a crate, igloo or doghouse with blankets for the dogs to curl up to stay warm in the winter. There are dog beds, some units have double beds and/or couches for the dogs to lie on. There are lots of blankets for the dogs to stay warm.

Hours of Operation:
Dogs may be dropped off or picked up between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are closed from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. We are open seven days a week.

Can I bring my dog’s bed, toys, and special treats?
Our runs have dog beds and blankets. We discourage bringing individual items but, will allow you to bring your dog’s personal bedding and toys. We will not be responsible for these items. We provide appropriately-sized dog cookies as treats and to each dog at bedtime for coming into the kennel for the night.

My dog is on a special diet. Can I bring my own dog food?
We prefer dogs remain on their customary diet while in our care. However, if the owner does not want to bring food, we feed Canidae kibble and Pedigree or Alpo canned food.

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept checks or cash.

  Puppy Socialization Program

I just got a puppy. When can I start him/her in your Puppy Socialization Program?
Puppies are accepted into our program from 10 weeks to six months. Minimum requirements to be accepted into puppy day care:

1) ownership and possession of the puppy for at least two weeks;
2) your puppy has been seen by a licensed veterinarian who deems the puppy healthy;
3) your puppy has had its first puppy shot

My puppy has diarrhea and/or is vomiting. Can I still bring him/her to Puppy Day Care?
Puppy’s immune systems are very fragile. We do not want to spread any illness to other puppies therefore, if your puppy has diarrhea, is vomiting, coughing, sneezing, lethargic, or shows any signs of illness, your puppy should be immediately seen by your veterinarian and must have a health clearance before being allowed back into puppy day care.

Can I leave my puppy all day in Puppy Day Care?
We recommend puppies be left for no more than four hours until they are five months of age. After five months, they can be left all day.

Can I stay with my puppy for the time s/he is in Puppy Day Care?
Very similar to kindergarten for children, puppies will assimilate into the play group much quicker if the owners drop them off and leave. The puppies are supervised constantly and groups balanced for temperament. Our goal is for your puppy to enjoy play time with similar aged playmates while learning social skills and bite inhibition.

I do not want to neuter my male puppy. Can he still be in the Puppy Day Care Program?
Unaltered male puppies are allowed in puppy day care until they are six moths old. After 6 months, they must be neutered or they are out of the program regardless of how social and friendly they appear to be.

I do not want to spay my female puppy. Can she still be in the Puppy Day Care Program?
Unspayed female puppies are allowed to remain in the program after six months of age; however, they may not come to day care if they are in heat.

  Dog Training Classes

Can I pay for individual classes instead of signing up for a whole series?

GTC offers private training sessions. The cost for a private lesson is $50.

If I sign up for classes and miss a session, is there a makeup date?
There are no makeup sessions for missed classes.

If I have something specific I want my dog to learn that isn’t covered in one of your classes, what are my options?
If the specific behavior you want covered is of general interest to members of the class, I will try to incorporate a lesson plan for the behavior in the class. If the behavior is specific to you and your dog, you will have to schedule a private consultation.

Can my children come with me to dog training classes?
We encourage all members of the dog’s family to attend training sessions. We welcome well-behaved children and will find ways to get them involved in the classes.
